The need for a dental crown may be necessary for a number of different reasons. Perhaps you lost part of a filling and need a tooth restored, or maybe a tooth has a deep crack that is threatening the integrity of that tooth. At Silver Creek Dentistry in Ripon, WI, Dr. James Hamman and Dr. Christopher Johnson use the CEREC<\/a> system by Sirona to design, mill and place a strong and durable crown in just one appointment.

\nTo be sure, dental crowns have been used for many years to restore damaged teeth. The procedure always required at least two appointments: one to prepare the tooth and place a temporary and the second, some two weeks later, to remove the temporary and bond the permanent crown. With CEREC, all of those steps happen in one visit, minus the need for a temporary crown. You\u2019ll have your permanent CEREC crown before you leave our office!<\/p>\n

The CEREC Process<\/h2>\n

The secret to being able to give patients dental crowns in a day is the CEREC system, which includes a digital camera, 3-D CAD (computer aided design) software and a mill. Together, these replace the impressions, the dental lab and the ceramist that were needed to build a crown. With CEREC, Silver Creek Dentistry builds crowns in the office.<\/p>\n

Once one of our dentists has determined that CEREC is the right option for your tooth restoration, we will anesthetize the tooth and surrounding gum tissue so the tooth can be prepared for the crown. We\u2019ll remove any decay and reduce the size of your tooth so the CEREC fits seamlessly alongside adjacent teeth and against opposing teeth. Then, a digital impression is taken with the camera and entered into the CEREC system, which develops a 3D model of your tooth. From this model, CEREC design a crown that is the right size, shape and even color.<\/p>\n

This design is electronically sent to the mill, where your CEREC same-day crown is milled in about 20 minutes. Stain, polish or glaze can be added to make the crown even more lifelike. Finally, the finished crown is cemented into place and you\u2019re ready to go!<\/p>\n
