The CEREC Process
The secret to being able to give patients dental crowns in a day is the CEREC system, which includes a digital camera, 3-D CAD (computer aided design) software and a mill. Together, these replace the impressions, the dental lab and the ceramist that were needed to build a crown. With CEREC, Silver Creek Dentistry builds crowns in the office.
Once one of our dentists has determined that CEREC is the right option for your tooth restoration, we will anesthetize the tooth and surrounding gum tissue so the tooth can be prepared for the crown. We’ll remove any decay and reduce the size of your tooth so the CEREC fits seamlessly alongside adjacent teeth and against opposing teeth. Then, a digital impression is taken with the camera and entered into the CEREC system, which develops a 3D model of your tooth. From this model, CEREC design a crown that is the right size, shape and even color.
This design is electronically sent to the mill, where your CEREC same-day crown is milled in about 20 minutes. Stain, polish or glaze can be added to make the crown even more lifelike. Finally, the finished crown is cemented into place and you’re ready to go!
